Static cling mounting foam turns bare rubber stamps into acrylic-block stamps. Here's what it does, how EZ Thin foam works, and when it's the right pick for stamping and foam storage.
Quick answer
Use static cling mounting foam when you have bare rubber stamps that need to grip an acrylic block, or when you're removing wood blocks from mounted stamps that already have foam. It is not a substitute for a die-cutting shim or a general-purpose craft foam.
Why the cling side matters more than the adhesive side
The cling side is the working surface: it holds the stamp to the acrylic block without glue, so you can reposition or swap stamps mid-project. The adhesive side is permanent, so placement mistakes are hard to undo. That split is why static cling foam is a mounting material, not a removable tape.
This also explains the common confusion with foam for die storage. Die storage foam holds metal dies in place; mounting foam holds rubber stamps to a block. They are different jobs, and using one for the other usually disappoints.
When wood-mounted stamps are the exception
If your stamp already has foam between the rubber and a wood block, you can remove the wood and reuse that existing foam with a cling sheet. The foam stays with the stamp; the sheet supplies the cling surface. If the old foam is compressed, torn, or peeling, replace it rather than trying to revive it.
Bare rubber stamps with no foam at all need a mounting layer first. Check the stamp's back before buying: a stamp that is already cling-mounted does not need this product.
Static cling foam questions, answered
- What does static cling mounting foam actually do?
- It gives a bare rubber stamp a clingable back so it sticks to an acrylic block and can be repositioned without adhesive on the block.
- When should I use EZ Thin foam instead of other foam?
- Use it for mounting rubber stamps to acrylic blocks, and for stamps you are unmounting from wood blocks that already have foam. Do not use it as a die-cutting shim or as foam for die storage. If your goal is storing dies, look for storage foam instead.
- How do I apply it without wasting a sheet?
- Trim the foam to the stamp's outline before peeling the backing, then press the sticky side to the stamp back and burnish. The instructions are printed on the sheet, so read them before cutting.
- Can I reuse the foam if I remove a stamp?
- The adhesive side is permanent, so the foam stays with the stamp. You can move the stamp between acrylic blocks, but you cannot peel the foam off cleanly and re-stick it elsewhere.
- Will it work with any acrylic block?
- It is designed for acrylic blocks, but cling performance depends on the block being clean and smooth. Wipe dust and oil from the block before mounting, and test a corner first if the block is old.
Product facts
- EZ THIN Static Cling Mounting Foam - 8.5" x 11": EZ THIN Static Cling Mounting Foam is black on both sides, sticky on one side and glossy black on the other, with instructions printed on the sheet. The glossy side is the cling face and the sticky side bonds to the stamp, so you can tell at a glance which way to apply it.
